Buying Wholesale Hair in Small Quantities: A First-Order Checklist

You don't need to fill a stockroom to place your first wholesale hair order. A smaller order gives you a chance to check the hair, try an install and see how the supplier handles the details before you spend more.

The trick is deciding what you want to learn from that first purchase. Are you choosing hair for your own clients, comparing quality options or trying a new texture? Start there. Then work through this checklist before paying.

1. Give your first order a clear purpose

If most of your clients ask for Straight or Body Wave, start with one of those. Choose a length you actually expect to use. That makes the sample easier to assess in the kind of install you normally do.

Keep the first order focused. Comparing Raw and Virgin? Choose the same texture and similar lengths where possible. Trying several qualities, textures and lengths at once makes it harder to work out what caused a difference.

At NMA Hair, the minimum order is one item, and samples are charged at the regular price. If that item is a bundle deal, check the listing for the number of bundles included.

2. Check exactly what you're buying

Before comparing prices, make sure you're comparing the same thing. A single bundle, a three-bundle deal and a set with a closure are different orders.

  • Which quality are you ordering: Raw or Virgin?
  • What texture, colour and lengths have you selected?
  • What is the listed weight per bundle?
  • How many bundles are included?
  • Is a closure or frontal included, and what size is it?

Save the listing or ask for those details in writing. If you're still choosing between the two NMA quality options, read our Raw vs Virgin hair guide before ordering.

3. Ask for photos that help you choose

A catalogue image helps you narrow down a texture. For a closer look, ask for photos showing the weft, the ends and the full length of the hair. If you're buying wavy or curly hair, ask whether it was photographed dry, wet or after styling.

You can request texture photos from NMA Hair on WhatsApp. Confirm which quality and product the photos show so you can match them to your order.

4. Get the full cost and delivery details

Send your delivery country with your order list. Ask for a written total showing the items and shipping, and confirm whether import duties or taxes are included or payable separately. International shipments can attract customs charges; DHL explains how those charges may be paid by the sender or receiver in its customs questions guide.

NMA Hair ships from China. If you're ordering for a booked appointment, ask when the order is expected to leave and what the transit estimate covers. Allow some room before the appointment in case delivery takes longer than expected.

5. Read the return conditions before testing

Find out how long you have to report a problem, what condition the hair must be in and who pays return shipping. The FTC's online shopping guide is a useful general reference for checking seller information, return terms and keeping purchase records.

For NMA Hair orders, contact us within seven days of delivery to request a return. Eligibility includes keeping the hair unused, unwashed, uncut and unaltered. Read the full return policy before washing, colouring or installing a sample.

6. Keep notes before you reorder

When the package arrives, check the contents against your order confirmation and photograph the hair before using it. Keep the packaging and labels while you inspect everything.

If you then wash or install your sample, record what you used and how you cared for it. Those notes give you something concrete to refer to when you decide whether to reorder the same hair or try another option.
